LWL: Links We Love

I'll admit it - when it comes to "me time," I am the ultimate dabbler in the world wide web.  There's just something so self-indulgent but also incredibly invigorating for the mind and soul (maybe not physically, but hey, you can't always have it all,) reading inspiring stories, watching Youtube videos and Ted Talks, absorbing inspirational and literary quotes, salivating over Pinterest recipes beyond my culinary reach (I'm such a novice in the kitchen, it's actually embarrassing to admit...) and catching up on what's new in the political, social, and fashion world (isn't it crazy how all of these things are now accessible at the touch of our fingertips? #My21Goingon80SelfStillCantGetOverIt)

Anyway, without further ado, below are a couple of my ultimate all-time favourite links that I hope will help to inspire, to move, to motivate, and to help you in passing (spending, wasting, whatever you'd like to call it! ;)) time.

For the Body

The Beauty Department
www.thebeautydepartment.com

From hair, makeup, and fashion inspiration to easy, breezy, and more amazingly, healthy "Beauty Bites" recipes Watermelon tartare?  Don't mind if I do,), this site is a gorgeous catalog of everything beauty-related.  The photography is candy for the eyes, and although some of the looks may seem a little too good to be true or intimidating, the visual step-by-step break-down of how to achieve them makes this one of my "for the body" go-tos on the web.

Cherry on the cake: It's run by Lauren Conrad herself and hairstylist, Kristen Ess as well as makeup artist, Amy Nadine, so you know you can trust it (anyone remember the droolworthy food/perfect hair she always had on The Hills?)

For the Mind

Other Wordly
www.other-wordly.tumblr.com

Did you know that "baltering" refers to the act of dancing artlessly, without particular grace or skill but always with enjoyment?  (This pretty much sums up my moves on the dance floor.)  I didn't!  Other Wordly presents beautiful words from every language in the world (ranging from Italian and German to Japanese and Iroquoian) that carry meanings which don't exist in English.  Being a literature and language junkie, I could browse this site for days and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Cherry on the cake: Not only does it add a little spice to your vocabularly (a rare or not commonly used word never failed to impress,) but it'll boggle your mind that English doesn't have words for some of the most interesting and common day phenomena that other languages do.  That, and aesthetically speaking, Other Wordly pretty much takes the gold for Typology Art/Word Porn category.

For the Soul

Smart, Pretty, and (Less) Awkward
www.smartprettyandawkward.com

Really, with a name like that, who could resist?  I first came across Molly Ford's "Smart, Pretty, & Awkward" column when I needed a little extra motivation during my first exam season in undergrad to keep pushing through.  The amiable Ms. Ford succinctly, wittily, and intelligently sums up (in two sentences or less)n how to achieve what every girl dreams of: how to be smart(er), pretti(er), and (less) awkward. You will love this site.

Cherry on the cake: Not only does each of Molly's posts begin with a witty, charming, or downright brilliant quote from someone worth noting, but her insight is always put in a way that's memorable and pertinent to anyone who can relate to a wanting to do so many things, having huge dreams, needing a good laugh, and having so little time to do it all.  Smart, Pretty, and (Less) Awkward is one of my all-time my favourite sites because it makes it all a little easier.

Enjoy, my tech-savvy blog lovers!

Until next time,
